Red Cat Ramen #01 — “They’re Cats”

Let’s see how many times I can say that in two paragraphs.

Six down, two to go, but I’m taking a short break to get the dogs out before the sun turns the sidewalks into grill-tops.

Impressions:

The most interesting thing I can say about this show is that it shows a good example compared to Pseudo Harem of what happens when you remove all chemistry from the characters and try to substitute it with a superficial “they’re cats.” Nobody wants to be there. Half the characters are awkwardly stammering because they don’t want to be there, and the other half are belligerently berating the previous half. And then you remove the little bits of humor, again replacing with “they’re cats” and get left with… this. A show that’s largely just… “they’re cats” and people being obnoxiously awkward.

There’s little more to say about it. It’s all in on its “they’re cats” premise. The protagonist spends the whole episode stammering, announcing that they’re cats, and staring blankly until the end where she’s overcome with the sheer emotion of… *checks notes* nepotism. Yeah, that definitely deserves the weepy violins and tears. Not to mention that it’s a bit weird to spend multiple days working somewhere BEFORE being hired. I think your understanding of labor is a bit broken, anime industry. Get yourself unionized already.
