Cat Butt Inc #07 — Crotch Laser

That seems unsanitary.

Impressions:

Another episode where the skeleton is almost there, but the flesh is missing; a flawless metaphor. By which I mean that once again, the thing I like is that it’s trying to show that failure is fine and there’s grace in it, something that anime very rarely does well. Or at all, instead opting to overdramatize the mere effort of getting up the gumption to try at all. This doesn’t accomplish that too well though, because Spica just randomly keels over, and no attempt is made to carry her or help her at all. Which is especially dumb coming from the poison girl with all manner of potions and whatnot in previous episodes. Stimulants are basically poisons, you know. So it fails on providing convincing effort, I’d say, and needed a reason why she failed besides *waves hands* the eepies.

Then it switches gears entirely, the poison girl becomes the main character, and we’re stuck in her boring head for the rest of the episode, where they go on a totally-just-friends date. It’s boringly by the books, and I suffer through four or five episodes exactly like it at the start of every season. They do their little dressup montage, wringe hands over proper honorific usage, all the usual things. Because next week, it’s time to continue to not do any of the fun evil mage battling things promised in the OP, and instead go to another training camp to train for another test. Training and tests. I miss the fightin’ teenager academies of 10 years ago.
