Kicked From the Party #01 — Ruminations on the Concept of Time

Kick him from the party for being an imbecile.

Impressions:

I was mentally checked out of this show about the point where it began explaining the concept of spells not being permanent at exhaustive length. You see, magic has a weakness, it has a duration. Having a duration means that it doesn’t last forever. The duration is three minutes. That means that the spell only lasts for three minutes. Once three minutes has passed, the spell no longer has any effect and you need to cast it again to get the effects. You need to keep casting a spell to have the effects because it keeps expiring. OH MY GOD, SHUT THE HELL UP. It would transition from there into the bog standard kicked from the party scene where everybody berates him for being mediocre and he does the whole “golly gee, you guys are completely right, but I’m doing it for you” routine which takes another goddamned five minutes.

From there, again, all is the same as every other one of these forsaken shows. He goes and impresses some hapless hot girl in mortal danger, she recruits him, he golly gees I dunno if I’m good enough but then ends up joining regardless, but not before another five minutes of explanations about the regimented rules of guild mechanics and dungeon exploration checklists, because the budget has run completely dry ten minutes into the first episode. Everything was bad. Okay, there were no pop-up status screens, just a stopwatch in the corner. So it could be worse. And it will be worse.
