This was your grand plan? A hole?
Impressions:
A lot about this episode rubbed me the wrong way, and I think I’m going to pin that on the script, though certainly the moment in the sewers where it devolved into a series of stills didn’t help. The pieces for a solid episode were there if you squint and don’t think about it, inspiring speech, dramatic comeback, etc, but little actually followed, and the grand plan was incredibly stupid. A hole. Drop the giant monster in a hole. Nobody had considered this before. Also, Teoritta has a secret extra special sword power that obliterates anything. That… seems like something that should have come up before Operation “Dig a Hole,” especially from the character with a pathological need for praise. The secret power that solves literally everything instantly at no cost? Could’ve been useful before now.
But there’s also the character stuff. Both the two new characters for the arc ended up being pointless, and instead Xylo spontaneously gave a speech about how he wants to be a hero. In the literal sense, not in this world’s silly definition. Not sure where that came from. The other two could’ve been written out entirely and we would’ve only missed about six minutes of the show across three episodes. I don’t meant to be this down on the episode, but the setup for the last two weeks didn’t lead to anything, the big climax featured a generic speech unrelated to anything that was going on, and the whole thing was resolved by a massive unearned ass pull.
