I’ll be playing catchup now that I have internet again, but including Wednesday’s shows, that’s… eight by my count, of things I wanted to at least take a glance at. I’ll do at least a chunk tonight. Newer things will come first. Synduality and High Card are lowest on the priority list.
Impressions:
This is that show that was originally announced about four years ago as a Crunchyroll Original, then got abandoned and since revived, and you can only very easily tell because it’s a complete mess, although you don’t need to go to those lengths to get that kind of chaos. Just let CloverWorks handle the show. Honestly though, if not for one thirty sixty second span, it would probably have just been confusing as there are way too many characters, very little focus, and it can’t seem to decide if it’s a bloody historical drama or a goofy story about a plucky dude who can effortlessly lift entire men over his head and throw them around. That already has some tonal confusion issues, but out of nowhere, right in the middle of the episode, comes a trio out of a bad action show for 13 year olds; a wizard, another wizard, and a dude who shoots a dozen arrows at once, pinning a dude to a wall two feet in the air.
And that’s just the setting. Once you get into the plot, the script also veers out of control. Dude is looking for lady in photo, but the corrupt, lazy government comes after him, so he tracks the guy down, who narrowly avoided wizard-related catastrophe, and the guy turns out to just be a random brigand, so the dude is recruited by the corrupt, lazy government. Also, there are some English spies plotting to overthrow the corrupt government. I’m not entirely sure how the wizards fit into all this, but I am fairly certain that I don’t really want to find out.
